此前，刘邦早发出悬赏布告——得到项羽尸体者，赏黄金万两，封万户侯。痛哉项羽！死后的尸体被五个人争相抢夺，撕裂成五块。

抢尸的五人是王翳、杨武、吕胜、杨喜、吕马童，他们分别被封为杜衍侯、吴防侯、涅阳侯、赤泉侯、中水侯，史称“裂尸封侯。”

《史记》记载：“诸项氏枝属，汉王皆不诛。乃封项伯为射阳侯。桃侯、平皋侯、玄武侯皆项氏，赐姓刘。”

项羽死后，刘邦并没有对项氏一族斩尽杀绝，不仅都封了侯爵，还给他们改为刘姓。

“力拔山兮气盖世”的悲情英雄项羽，想不到自己的家族被刘邦再一次很“文明”地侮辱了一番。

历朝历代的皇帝赐姓一般都是赐姓给功臣，属于一种荣耀，比如唐朝的徐懋功改姓成了李勣，明朝的郑成功一度改姓成了朱成功。

汉高祖刘邦对曾经的敌人赐姓就不同寻常了，与其说是一种恩宠，倒不如说是强行逼迫项氏家族集体改姓更准确一些。

项伯是项羽的叔叔，与帝师张良是故交，当年鸿门宴中救了刘老大一命，属于有恩于汉朝的人，他投降后，被刘邦赐姓刘氏，封为射阳侯。

孝惠帝三年（公元前194年），项伯病逝，他的儿子刘睢犯有罪过，没资格继承爵位，这一支沦落为平民了。

项襄是项羽的三叔，很早就投降了刘邦，曾跟随刘邦平定谋反的黥布，后被封为桃侯，更名为刘襄。汉惠帝时期，刘襄因犯罪被废掉爵位。

吕后称制的时候，为拉拢天下贵族，复封刘襄为桃侯。汉文帝时期，刘襄去世，子刘舍继承爵位。

孝景帝七年（前147年），刘舍升任御史大夫，不久接替周亚夫任丞相，算是项氏家族混得最好的一支，刘舍在汉武帝在位时期病逝。

项他（一作项佗）是项羽的族侄，被灌婴击败后成了战俘，后来归顺了汉朝，受封为平皋侯，传承了四代，平皋侯刘胜给刘姓老祖宗祭祀之地——宗庙的献金成色不足，失去了侯爵，没有血缘关系就是不一样，这不等于上坟烧报纸嘛。
